Thread regarding Optum layoffs

How does the layoff process work?

Does your manager just call you the day of on Teams or is it a HR led meeting?

Speaking from my experience on 4/6, a VP scheduled a 15min meeting. Thought it was odd since I was the only other person present, but within 30 seconds of the meeting I knew what was up. Not the first time the company has done this method of RIF. Happened to a peer a few years ago in the same way. My Director, and manager were also blindsided apparently. It's just business, and also not easy to take it personal. My Director's boss was also relieved at the same time.

@swo+1m2ewqaE If you were on PTO which your manager approved before the layoff, you should have never joined the call. You should not have read the email or taken any calls from work. By doing this, you will extend your healthcare benefit expiration date from the company. Also, if your manager is laidoff and her/his manager or HR puts it off (or forgets to contact you), then you are still employed. And then you have the right to get a lawyer and sue them for letting you go without notification. Just keep screenshots of your approved PTO, your email, your automatic reply of email stating you are on PTO, etc. You have to gather proof.

1 level above manager, 30 mins meeting scheduled before they will let you go. Not aware of anyone or anywhere who gives any type of notices prior. 1 day and you are free.

I can only speak for how mine went. My leader did not make the notification. It was a couple levels above. 30 days to actual end date but relieved of duties on thurs. done while i was on pto.

The RIF is systematically designed to save cost - this includes avoiding severance pay out if they could help it. This org is known to pay the fines and meet the bottom line. If it willingly declined/delayed PT claims for financial gains.. why would they be compassionate with do-g the right thing for RIF ?

15 min block meeting that is suddenly put on your calendar that day with a vague title is the tell tail sign.

Is Optum giving the laid-off employees 60 day notice? Are you on Optum's financial books for 60 days from the date you were notified of layoff?

If you are highly likely to get cut then go on vacation and a long one. This way, when you get notified, your health insurance coverage lasts longer if they are giving you 60 day notice. Or take a short-term disability. Most companies give 90% of pay.

My supervisor was accompanied by their supervisor, and the entire thing took place in 10 mins with a 15min time block scheduled.
