Thread regarding Salesforce.com Inc. layoffs

Apply for a sales job at salesforce?

I just got let go at Oracle (terrible company! so it wasn't too bad) and am thinking of applying to salesforce - I always hear how great their training program (get an MBA in sales) is and how much better their solutions are compared to Oracle. But of course I have heard about the recent layoffs.

Do you think they are mostly over with laying people off? Given the economy is slowing I do not think trying to wait for the right time is a good idea

Any comments on work life balance for sales folks? Most people online says its not that great but where is these days? I'm sure it varies from team to team but would love any input

I left Oracle on my own accord and was genuinely excited about the prospect of working at Salesforce. It’s def better than Oracle (but let’s face it, almost anywhere else is). Salesforce employees are not particularly genuine. A lot of bluster, selfishness and entitlement. The business needs to grow up and start operating at the scale it has grown to, instead of pretending it’s still a company with 30k employees.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I’m shocked at some of them but really good to know. This makes me less excited to apply. I still think it would be a step up from oracle. There I was selling solutions which over half did not work or haven’t received any investment in a while.

Workday is another company I am thinking of - I’ll post on that board

the onboarding process was the least informative, least product centric, and least personal of any company I have ever worked for period. Part of the reason I left voluntarily was because I was learning nothing new and not developing. Did well financially, but it was clearly just not going to do anything for myself from a personal development standpoint. the "MBA in sales" thing probably died years ago or before they got so large they fail to manage the sprawling force. "burn em and churn" em is more what i saw. 100% truth, we kept having dozens of new hire calls on the importance of being sustainable. Which is important. But I can attend one session, maybe 1-2 follow ups to ram the point home. I never once recieved any in-depth product training. In fact, my new hire class submitted a compliant that our "boot camp" lacked any product information at all and their response was to go find the the automated online recording and obtain that information on our own. Go figure why "new hires are less productive". huh....

Salesforce has some of the worst training I've seen in my 15 years in corporate America. You will learn nothing and need to pick things up on your kwn

Just apply, why are you speaking as if you got tones of choices...

maybe you get an offer first before u decide.

Salesforce definitely better than Oracle in every aspect, the fact that Benioff came from Oracle OVER 25 years ago means nothing

Not advisable. Do not forget that Benioff himself came from Oracle and he has part of that Oracle mindset and ruthless culture and it is becoming visible now that times are rougher.

major restructuring still ongoing, but if you need a job and can perform, why not, you graduated from Oracle
