Reason is that if large employers can hire people able to work from remote and low cost of living areas, by definition the supply of candidates will increase and salaries will go down for EVERYBODY. Including people who live in large cities with expensive cost of living.
Therefore please lets all come back to the office. If you want to work remotely, mayber offer to take a pay cut.

Remote workers can work from 'anywhere' (high or low cost). Large corporations offering to hire remote workers will obvious attract more interest based on many studies, but it doesn't mean salaries decrease for 'everybody'. Large corporations have compensation structures/policies, candidates have skill sets (and other competitive options - other employers). Candidates shop around and pick the best deal (and not necessarily highest offer either - past Amazon's offers have proven to be very misleading with the stock market dip).
Resist going back to the office. Make your fake leaders see the mistakes that they're deliberately making. Go elsewhere where you are valued. Some will work remotely and take a pay cut, but it's circumstantial. Don't undersell yourself!!! Don't wait!!!
