Thread regarding Disney layoffs

DEI is DOA

This is a major problem for Disney because Iger's state approach is to mitigate risk and leverage existing IP by race- or gender-swapping existing characters. Peter Pan and Wendy is likely to be another bo-b, so there is going to have to be a significant shift in strategy if Disney plans to have any chance at bringing the balance sheet at least close to equilibrium before recession.

Keeping DEI hires over those who earned their jobs based on merit is terrible news for everyone. We saw what DEI hires did to SVB. We need to keep people based on competency, not their skin color.

Great News for Some: Employee Culture Communications Managers, etc. (AKA: DEI cast members/employees) are pretty much "safe" from the 7K layoffs.

Y’all keep saying these DEI content fails, yet time and time again they bring in a lot of money or viewers.

For viewers of this thread, the WE was replaced by the w and three asterisks used. Unbelievable!

@bsp+1lw42qBe: Consider doing proper research. The DEI/WE focus in content is only minimally successful in the "box office" and media outlets (mainly tv shows and advertising). One recent project, "Black Panther: WF" did well. Though I liked it, Disney can't bank on the Panther or the like in the future. Disney has to reach the masses to continue success, not just "we" viewers.

Compared to other "films" of the first decade+ of the millennium, recent Disney films and media projects (cartoons) have not performed well at all. Nothing compared to the past! Yes, Strange World was not a success, but the same with Turning Red, First Lightyear and Mulan, and so many Disney channel shows of late.

(BTW...One of the other issues in the lowering of Disney "5 Key" standards in the Parks. Once the thousands of dollars per family from Covid pay-offs are used up, Park attendance will decline. Disney needs to focus on big picture market research.)
