Fifteen weeks plus one week for each year of service (plus unused PTO) would have given me more than a decent safety net as I searched for a new job. In fact, I would probably take a few months off before doing anything else. I think if there's one thing those who were laid off can't complain about, it's severance.

You also can get unemployment benefits for 6 months and if you're in California or San Francisco get Medi-Cal for insurance.
