Thread regarding Micron Technology Inc. layoffs

Unemployed for over a month

Too many people are applying for too few jobs and it's harder than ever to stand out. Now I'm feeling demoralized. I know it hasn't been too much time yet realistically but in my entire adult life the longest I went without a job was two weeks - and that was by choice! I'm not sure how to adjust to this.

Unemployment Insurance for Idaho is max 10 weeks x the Amt you are approved (most should see the max allowed is about $500 per week). IDOL says unemployment rate is 2.9 ℅ - that is why max term is 10 weeks.... but it is real money and a booster shot to the severance from Micron > basically IDOL expects you to find a job quickly

MU-->AZ is a good move (I moved almost 2 years ago due to ageism and workplace toxicity). Many semi companies besides TSMC and INTC. Many of them are less toxic and do not go through bo-m-bust cycles due to better business model. PHX cost of living is comparable to BOI.
Without any semblance of job security that MU used to provide in the past, BOI is semi career dead end, since upper management knows well there are no options in town, and any move out is a financial hit due to poor real estate appreciation in the area.

pay somebody on linkedin to fix your resume to make it pass the algorithm. best 300 dollars you can spend at this moment.
move to Arizona, TSMC is hiring like crazy.

I’m just gonna be a stay at home Dad for a few years or whenever they start hiring again. I’m lucky to be able to do that.

Better to take that job in Phoenix, as it may not remain open for long, especially when it pays lot more. You could perhaps transit for a while. Looks like Q3 is not going to be rosy either, so not to sure of job market improving. One may have to take up different jobs than ones past experiences.
Have you folks looked at availing unemployment insurance benefits, till landing a good job ? That should tide over things for 26 weeks ? Stay strong, your tenacity will land you in the right place. Semi / memory market is not going anywhere in the mid / long term. In God We Trust.

For the OP, be hopeful - take as many informational interviews as possible. Not sure your skills or position that you had at Micron, but besides ON Semi over in Nampa or a Micron supplier, to stay in Boise almost certainly means a career or job change. Think about what you need to pay bills and would accept vs the dream job. TSMC, Samsung, Intel, TI, SkyWater, etc - many openings outside of Boise to stay in industry. Micron severance is in my bank account now and we did a very tight budget using Ramsey zero budget approach, and found we can actually get by for quite a while (suggest to look into medical sharing plan vs ACA or Cobra keep costs down too)...so you need to know your timeline to find work, that might help reduce anxiety and fear...have a plan - your plan - you will get hired! You have skills or Micron would have never employed you....best to you and everyone else going through this layoff!

Keep chugging along. It's tough out there but hopefully you got some padding with the severance. Make sure you are making job applying a full time job to replace your list job.

Same here. That’s what happens when the job market is flooded with tons of people unemployed. I have a few places I have interviewed with but haven’t heard back yet. They did request my transcripts so that must. Be a positive. TSMC gave me an offer but it’s in phoenix and my family decided against it. They pay way more than Micron.
