I don't think layoffs at the store level are even possible. I don't know about the rest of you, but we are down to a skeleton crew as it is. If they remove more people, they might as well lock the doors and throw away the key. It will not be possible to run the store with fewer people. If we're expected to do it, I'll walk away.

No more layoffs, just cuts through attrition. Meaning, if someone resigns or gets fired, depending on their budget, they will not replace. People might start getting more hours, but they’ll definitely have more work. Macy’s has finally made me realize that corporate greed does in fact exist. Those at the top will collect their giant bonuses while everyone else will suffer the consequences of poor decision making. We’re just casualties. No big deal. Macy’s still looks good to Wall Street and investors are satisfied. So utterly disappointed, and not that it matters to anyone, but I am glad I was 100% honest in the recent culture survey.
Macys is that company where the big executives get multi million dollar bonuses and no show jobs while the regular employees work an unlivable wage. The rich get richer, at some point there will be a breaking point.
We are actively hiring in our Store - and we have more full-time jobs that are posted on our macysjobs website. Our associates are getting benefits if they are Full timers and scheduled over 30 hours. I know some other Stores in our area aren’t hiring because there isn’t enough hours but hiring is still happening in my Store.
This is all so shameful So…..
the rest of stay and work hard, with hours cut and doing other people’s jobs.
The company will hope that people leave through attrition instead of by layoff. Reducing hours and impacting a persons bottom line is discouraging to say the least so a lot of people will look elsewhere unless they’re desperate or a retiree who came back to work looking for part time hours
In our store, they hired a bunch of seasonals like too many and now they are saying there’s no hours. Our store is definitely not bare minimum, too many employees. We had the bare minimum when we came back from furlough during covid but not right now.
Unless something very drastic changes, I don't think we'll see layoffs in the near future. Right now they're cutting through attrition, meaning that when the job target is lowered, associates are not cut but the job is not replaced when they leave.
