Thread regarding SAP layoffs

The plot thickens

I am in support I was lucky enough to be in an office that was not affected. When the question was asked how will we keep up when losing people. Come to find we were told we will be hiring many people 20 from Brazil and Budapest. Disrespectful to not only lay people off that have been with the company a long time in the US but to announce this while my colleagues who are affected are still here. Disrespectful and shows it’s about outsourcing the jobs to cheaper places.

this is true, I heard very senior people let go who are predominately in cloud areas. This isn't a restructuring, this is a cost cutting exercise.

My team was doing development for two lucrative customers, for which the company recently announced large deals - we were cut anyway because we are in the US and our jobs are being outsourced to India.

I can confirm this is true. They are hiring for the same positions that were cut in NA in Brazil & Budapest. This is not a strategic move based on Product. It is a cost cutting measure. Everything else they say is pure BS.

Some cuts were fat. Some cuts were people with singular skills very much needed and working in core consumption areas. In flight work critical to our ERP customers is now left hanging. Key customers are going to wonder about commitment to initiatives they bought into. The fallout won’t be pretty.

To the doom mongering comment you are wrong simply because one group laid off people in the US Lake Mary FL, and Burlington MA only to then say they are going to hire the same amount of people that were laid off in Brazil and Budapest. Also the support all hands came out and directly said the hires will be from low cost centers. Luckily I wasn't affected but feel bad for my colleagues.

To the first response, this is not true about areas/products that have no future. Without going into specifics, I work in a central, critical piece of a flagship product and was cut, and others that work on SAC were let go even though it’s integrations are steadily growing

So much nonsense posted here mixed in with the elements of truth. It was a restructuring. Cutting investment in areas that have no future and putting the money in the strategic areas for the future. My office wasn't affected and we have lots of open positions. Only for internal. We've recently hired from India, Spain and Brasil for my specific team.

I know a good amount of people affected due to travel over the years. And they were in teams that were bloat and getting left behind. The move to cloud strategy is altering where SAPs business lies and unfortunately some teams will suffer as they no longer fit the vision. Most of the people I personally know that are affected are in the process of moving to other roles. Granted this is mostly in Europe where it has filtered through without being officially announced.

SAP aren't perfect and my loyalty doesn't extend much beyond the pay cheque. But let's tone down the doom mongering.

I know there were open head count already in some areas . The whole focus restructuring was just a lie just pure cost cutting outsourcing
