" L8 at BigTechB and was laid off last week after 15 years"

He/she should be a multimillionaire now. set for life now with all these RSUs.

Probably owned 3 - 4 houses and lots of passive incomes, you don't need to worry about them but yourself.

There is a good chance inflation will remain high for a while. Companies in debt like Amazon may need to shift strategies drastically and cut costs. Borrowing billions for expansion may not be feasible anymore. Honestly I am surprised only 18,000 got cut. I suspect many more will be cut at next OLR if not sooner. My neighbor was L8 at BigTechB and was laid off last week after 15 years. I wonder whether Amazon may also target L7-L8 next time regardless of performance. This is my personal opinion, no knowledge about that.
