Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Flatten the management level

What makes better sense is to flatten the management level. Google and Facebook are doing it. Why would a company paying so much more on inflated salary and titles to have so many senior executives and senior managers managing little managers and technical employees? I bet getting people in is one of the way to show VPs and the rest of the management have some works to do. The fact is, since pandemic, VMware have gone almost fully remote and revenue is better from year to year. Perhaps, management are feeling their values dropped. So, it is time to find something to do to justify the existence. E.g sending out many useless meetings and bogus projects. Managers should have some knowledge in software development and or have been in technical roles to be effective in managing technical teams otherwise, they are just going to get in the way. Recession coming, everyone should roll up the sleeves and get to the real work. Meta calls it "Year of Efficiency"

This is why we're seeing a lot of managers trying to defend their turf, playing up the importance of their organization and trying to get headcount under them. I'm seeing it in multiple organizations. Truth: VMware has a TON of overlapping roles and Broadcom has noticed that and is waiting to optimize. VMware could have done that without needing an acquisition.

Google and Facebook are doing it.

Hey George, I know how to fix things... just do what Google is doing!

Egads, this is EXACTLY what is wrong with so many 'tech leadership' people at vmware.

If they love google projects so much, why don't they just go work there?

Recession coming, everyone should roll up the sleeves and get to the real work.

Although the media and companies are flogging the 'recession is coming' narrative to gain clicks and convince the market, it's not indicated by economic activity.

The companies desperately want to lay people off to temporarily boost the bottom line and get some payouts.

Meta calls it "Year of Efficiency"

Meta is not an authority on anything. And Mark Zukerberg is not a genius. He's a ruthless waste of atoms who wants more than what he as already greedily gained through less-than-ethical means.

Hock Tan will make it happen, don't worry.
