Cutting hours

Full and part timers being cut to the minimum hours right now. Is this happening in all stores?

So basically……they are slowing telling associates as each week progresses instead of making one major store announcement so there won’t be an uproar!! They are trying to make people slowly quit “through attrition” so they don’t have to pay severance….and so they don’t have to pay insurance if they keep the average hours below the treshold to have Macy’s insurance, plus less PTO next fiscal year…. This is all part of the plan….

Starting on April hours will be cut drastically. Probably all the way to summer and maybe thru the holidays.

The company again overspent in the month of February when they shouldn’t have. Stores that do not know how to control their expenses are making the rest of us pay. They’ll probably just take away our reserve hours. Individual Store Managers need to be held accountable this year. Too many incompetent leaders and mediocre EDPs running stores right out of college. Not good for business or morale. Hopefully Macy’s takes a closer look.

The same is true at our store . Still don't understand how you will cut hour's, when there's not enough coverage. It would be better for them to cut the store hours. Why are we open after the entire mall is closed .Go back to 11am to 7pm schedule, customer will shop when we're open ,just like they going to the grocery stores or doctors appointments, they have to go when it's open. The CEO'S will be getting their big bonuses while the associates who struggle all year barely get 0.20 to 0.25 cents raises? Go figure with cost of living on the rise and now they can't give you a livable schedule..

To the folks who say their hours were 'cut': 2 months ago was end of holiday where almost anyone could get hours. Additionally, the positions are a range of hours...you are not guaranteed hours at the top level of your range but you should at least be scheduled to the minimum

Same at our store, they are demanding you clock in at designated time and leave not ONE minute late. So we are supposed to to tell the customer - gotta go home now. Stand around and hope someone will wait on you. I swear this company has a yahoo at the helm.

So basically. They are forcing people to quit. The choice is yours, if you want to put food on the table find another job. The problem with the post below, many good hard workers will leave!

It’s happening in my location as well. We have no people as it is. But they keep cutting hours left and right and the go back racks keep adding up. Then the store manager insists they be put away but it’s like…with what team??? And it’s not like they’re helping you put stuff away or rallying a team to come help you…

A lot of stores are over in staffing ownership and there will be no Store lay offs. Cuts in that area will happen through attrition. So until your store balances, all colleagues will get less hours. There is no budget and not enough hours to go around. That’s unfortunate. So stores need to coach out unproductive people so hard workers and people who do their jobs get the hours they deserve and are entitled to.

How many hours can be cut? The stores don’t have enough coverage as it is. Constantly seeing customers looking for help this is no way to run a business. I was in Lowe’s yesterday and very similar hardly any people available to help. Customer service had to page someone twice and the person came over with a bad attitude as if I just interrupted her break or something. Does Macys want to continue staying in business? That is the big question.

Seems late this year but yes, this has happened every single year since I started…in 2009 😬

The poster below me is correct. I was going to say the same thing myself. We go through this cycle every single year.

I've worked at Macys for many years, this happens every year during this time. Trust me in about 4-6 weeks they will be begging for you to stay over or come in on your day off cause of lack of coverage.

Yes. I work at a store in the PNW.
I work BOH and went from 40 to anywhere between 14-22 hours the last couple weeks.
Scheduling me for a 5 hour shift only for them to change it to a 4 hour shift (without notifying me beforehand)

Op manager said "it's company wide" that hours are tight.
Apparently the 10 minute window is no more. As in, if you're scheduled at 10am you can't clock in at 9:50 it has to be 10am. That's how petty this company is being to save a few $.

Yet in the same breath my manager wants us who hours have been cut to "hang in there and not quit!" Well, dude... I can't pay my bills on 14 hours a week. And I'm not gonna stick around in hopes i get more hours next week.

It's ridiculous.

There will always be a place for brick and mortar stores just not as many.

My hours have been cut from 40 to 28 two months ago. Im amazed that this isn't happening in all stores. My store has been making or exceeding plan but we are cutting hrs . Don't know how much more they can do to us other than fire all of us. They say there's getting to be no market for brick and mortar locations. You would be shocked by the amount of customers who want to see items before they buy because they are tired if bringing back merchandise that is not what they see online. We are getting this wrong and are abandoning that segment of our customer base.
