If inflation remains high, working from home may turn out to be the last issue you have to worry about. Amazon in particular operates with huge debt. I am not surprised 18,000 more will be laid off. This time they may follow BigTech2 and cut high paying folks regardless their perceived performance.

I always "consider" how bad my dog wants some of my dinner. Poor guy has no idea he never has a chance.

"Implying" and "consideration" are doing a lot of work in that statement

The petition now has over 23,000 signatures and Max Peterson just put out an email implying they will take our feelings into consideration.

If most of your salary was in 'low worth' Amazon stock (which fell at least 50%) and you're then told that you have to go to the office regularly, wouldn't that be like managing out? There are so many remote opportunities that pay LOTS of CASH (not RSU's that will tumble in value). Look on remote.io for these jobs.

Sadly, there's no point in trying to reason with Sassy Jassy or the Sassy-Team. For them, it's in one ear, out the other. They timed their decision abruptly after the layoffs to give their corporate employees a couple of months to find a remote job or two. Sassy is managing out - making employees lives as miserable as possible so that they'll leave on their own volution, and therefore reduce expenses for investors. It's really simple. They did this on purpose.

I worked from home 3 days a week before covid. The days I went in were a waste. Wasted time commuting, being distracted by others. I don't know why it's so hard to believe that people get more work done when the commute and distractions are gone, and when you also have all the conveniences of your own office, kitchen, and bathroom. It's like people are msd/jealous that we found a way to be happier and more productive.

"How much collaboration is lost with people working from home and putting their home schedule as a priority."

If you actually read any of the multiple articles online about this situation you'd see where multiple employees have already accurately pointed out that in the dozen or so studies performed throughout COVID all of them concluded that productivity either stayed the same or went up due to WFH.

Also people can "work as a team" and have been for three years working from home using any of the numerous collaboration tools available.

At many large corporations like the telecom I work for, employees were already geographically dispersed with some in permanent WFH positions for twenty years before COVID. As a result, I have worked with people daily for years that I have met in person maybe a half dozen times and therefore exclusively communicate with over the phone, chat, or email just like all the WFH employees do now and no one has ever complained about anyone's productivity.

The only ones claiming otherwise with no supporting data are management who are all terrified the world will find out that their jobs are largely pointless and that adult tech workers can manage themselves.

Also the fact that most of Amazon's earnings issues are due to poor upper management decisions like allowing tons of fake product reviews and largely getting rid of Prime two-day shipping both of which have eroded consumer confidence and led to cancelled subscriptions.

In other words, things that have nothing to do with an easy scapegoat like employees being allowed to WFH. Which of course is all explained in numerous articles you can find with a simple Google search that you obviously never performed.

Also as a previous poster mentioned, people smart enough to get a computer science or other engineering degree are smart enough to find another comparable job, not to mention that there are plenty of tech jobs available in other parts of the country besides the west coast that pay the same when adjusted for cost of living and are all still WFH.

As yet others have pointed out, many corporations are requiring RTO as a way to get employees to quit voluntarily so the corporation can reduce headcount without paying severance.

But please, you and the other half dozen trolls on the other threads continue to give us your uninformed jealous truck driver opinions and continue to show us why you weren't college material.

I say entitled because you think they are taking something away that only came about due to a situation out of anyones control. No they are not taking anything away they are simply restoring their ability to do work as a team. How much collaboration is lost with people working from home and putting their home schedule as a priority. It seems to me business needs to balance this out as they employ their employees.

In my current role, I believe it does make sense people I interact with goes to the office regularly. I like to invite team members for a (free) coffee downstairs. I understand that if your team and customers are sparse, you may not want to go back. Problem is that employers spent lot of money in those massive buildings. They will not let that empty for too long.

Don't be so bitter. Plenty of us work from our own homes making plenty of money and will have other options if this doesn't work out.

Question for you. Why are you so bitter and angry? What do you gain from trying to force others to have a worse work life balance? Do you want worse work life balance for yourself?

Tell us the best thing about your job that makes work easier for you. Now if they wanted to take that from you, would you just roll over and let it happen?

Most of us have zero reason to be in an office. I'm on calls all day, going to an office won't change that as nobody I'm on calls with is even within 500 miles of me and any office I'd go to.

Hopefully, they'll back off, but they've spent so much money on real estate and much of these offices are sitting empty. No one on my team is in my location, so going into the office would be waste time and money.
