Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

Reminder: apply to remote jobs - NOW!

Sassy Jassy wants to eliminate your position. If you refuse to go to the office for 3 days/week starting on May 1, then that's it - Sassy Jassy will fire you to cover his expenses. You won't collect severance, benefits... NADA.

That's right. 18000 layoffs were not enough. Sassy Jassy wants more layoffs. But he can't afford to pay for them. So he's gonna force you out another way. Get it?

Lots of good paying remote jobs at remote.io, Microsoft, NVidia, Epic Games. You get much better benefits. Get it now?

There's a slack channel #remote-advocacy and it has a petition that has been signed by over 5000. https://tech.co/news/amazon-staff-outraged-return-office

I believe that there are some Amazon workers who don’t need to be in the office. These are the people who should not be paid much. I think they are the software developers who are a dime a dozen now. You developers are not really that smart. It ain’t rocket science.

For the short term, Jassy is OK with that. The majority of development in Amazon is product based, and developers have to fit their code within the framework. Therefore, you are mostly filing in APIs. You don't need the best developers for this. Ironically, the developers are victims of Amazon's excellent infrastructure. The s--t is going to hit the fan from a technical standpoint when the infra developers start leaving and the infrastructure declines.
