Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Anyone else have d-mb management ????

My store likes to make up rules as they go and have decided or actually lied and said availability is no longer an option. Meaning you can’t have a set day off anymore, you can work up to 5 evenings and you’re not guaranteed a weekend off ever. Anyone else’s store try and spew this bullish!t? Called HR today and said they never heard of this new rule. What a joke. Good luck Macys!! if you’re trying to get people to leave, you’re doing a great job!! I’ve been with Macys for over 15+ years and had the same day off since then because it works with My life. You know… the “work/life” balance they advertise to new hires.
Place is a complete joke with Incompetent managers.

I work every weekend. I like having days off during the week. Just because you can't go out and get hammered every weekend and can't get up and get to work is your problem. You work weekends in retail even when I was a manager I worked weekends all the time to give my associates weekends off. They don't care anymore if they are affecting your lifestyle all about the Benjamins they want more people on the floor during weekends that will not change. Get a job Mon-Fri if its too much for you .

If there are seven days in a week, and you take two weekdays off, and you're full time... you're working the weekend. It's not a conspiracy, it's math.

And whoever said companies don't give a set day off is a liar who never worked for Macy's and I have no clue why they're here. I've been there since the start of MSP too.

It's called open availability. Very prevalent in retail and many businesses. If you don't like it, leave. I did.

That “rule” is bogus. Never heard of it. Sounds like you need to update your availability, if you haven’t already or use your unavailable days that the company gives hourly colleagues. But yes, unfortunately if you don’t have open availability, MSP will automatically give you a schedule you might not always like. For example, I know of FT colleague that can’t work Tuesdays and Thursdays so the system knows those are their set days off and won’t schedule them on those particular days. So for that reason, they have to work a ton of weekends ensuring that they get the hours guaranteed to them. And as a rule, EVERYONE must have open availability on the weekends. Including Senior PLs. Moral of the story, the more colleagues have open availability, the more fair the schedule is. That’s the reality. I’ve been dealing with MSP since it’s birth.

Actually you have zero idea what you’re talking about. Some retailers do have set days off and Macys is included in that. Don’t tell me it’s retail. I know it’s retail, I’ve worked long enough to know that I miss holidays, life events, family days. I’m entitled to not be available one day ( not a wknd) a week to make appointments, care for my family. Seems like u eat/sleep Macys. U have one life and I won’t bow down like everyone is doing in this country. Especially for a retailer that will kick u out on ur a-s when they don’t need you.

Its retail…. No one is forcing you to be in this business. There is no retailer that gives you a set day off. Its all an automated system. If you want full time hours, you have to have full time availability, and then the system schedules you where/when the business needs are, not to your needs.

They can edit your schedule up to 2 weeks before it’s even published on Friday.

Same here. They are hiring the most incompetent managers who know absolutely nothing. And they lie to whoever they can get away with lying to. Not me, I know my rights. You can also complain if it’s ageism or something like that cuz they seem to be very agreeable with meeting the availability of new and younger hires.
