- Tell you are valuable employee, you are safe and write you up for promotion.
- Thank you for being a good team player and gives you generous severance package.
- Tells you you are safe, a few weeks later give you a "performance improvement plan" and let you go a month later for bad performance.

Looks like micron wants to keep 100% control of the process. Otherwise some people may start unpredictably volunteering.
