Copycat layoffs - the incompetent ELT we-pon of choice

What was the main reason given for the recent Nov and Jan layoffs? Anybody buying it?
As we know, the incompetent so called ELT we-ponized layoffs to get rid of political victims, those that are deemed old timers or too old, etc.

The following excerpts from the articles below says it all about this toxic place.

"If you look for reasons for why companies do layoffs, the reason is that everybody else is doing it. Layoffs are the result of imitative behavior and are not particularly evidence-based."

"In many instances, corporations use a broader deluge of layoffs to disguise the impetus of their own downsizing. Indeed, as Annie Lowrey writes for The Atlantic, "[s]hedding employees when everybody else is doing it avoids drawing public scrutiny to or creating reputational damage for a given firm." Workforce reductions tend to signal trouble at a particular company or corporation — but if a "firm downsizes when everyone else is doing it, the public seldom notices and investors seldom care."

Copycat layoffs "also let executives cite challenging business conditions as a justification for cuts, rather than their own boneheaded strategic decisions," Lowrey continues. CEOs can play the decision off as having nothing to do with over hiring or mismanaged priorities on their part — it's just the way things are right now. I mean, everyone is doing it! Employees and shareholders ask fewer questions, morale (sometimes) takes less of a hit, and, as Forbes' Jack Kelly points out, higher-ups can "prune the low performers without worrying about being accused of discrimination or biases.""

Layoffs, for whatever reasons is a failure of management and at this place it's more true than most.

Layoffs take time to plan and well before they are executed. Many companies were in discussion and this place just subscribe to the same management monthly letter or chat group.

So many layoffs in 2022, so don't tell us that this place is the pioneer of layoffs. Copycat for sure.

This first article is a real good one.

They absolutely copycatted Facebook's layoffs of 11000. Mainstream media announced it:

Not just layoffs, but copycat everything. If you try to be innovative, they'll hate you.

I appreciate your desire to place meaning behind the layoffs, but I don't believe you will find an answer you like in this heavily capitalistic world. Even still, refuting your point here, your comment history indicates that you personally were impacted in early November, before nearly all of the other tech companies. This was not a copycat action. It was an awful and devastating decision to have to make, but not a copycat.
