Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

How is BP's data engineering department

Tech industry is doing many layoffs. BP is still hiring for data engineers. What is data engineering responsible for at BP? Is it a good experience for someone in data science field? How is the pay in data relative to other engineering disciplines at BP?

That's an awful job. Stear clear. Their data issues are horrendous and they don't want to do it right. They've tried to go automated in onshore America and the whole data systems issue is a nightmare. They do not want to pay to do it right and the engineers don't have the right data to make good business decisions. You will be put through a meat grinder if you take that job.

Leadership within ‘data’ at bp is extremely poor. This is also true of the rest of ‘digital’. I would avoid it if you have other options.

Is management in data also similar to what other posts described about the company? Are they also ignorant and egoistic?

Pay is low in the data and analytics discipline at bp compared to Uber etc. The oil cycle is up at the moment but when the oil price is more challenging expect to see layoffs.
