Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Manager changing schedules day before

We have a manager who still have access to scheduling. Yes, I know, managers don't have access to scheduling changing. This manager does and she changes scheduling without asking or notifying you about changes. The old store manager put a stop to it. The new manager allows or is not aware of this manager constantly making these changes to our schedule. Sometimes it changes the day before and have no idea. How do we as a store stop this from happening? HR is no help.

Open a Solutions In Store case today. That will get the attention of your managers. Trust me, I know.

Just a week ago. Manager sent me a 2 others a text saying hours had been added. It was a weekend shift (6am-11am)

That night before said shift it still said 6-11. That morning I just so happen to look at the schedule again and it had been changed 6am-10am

They'll send a text saying hours added but won't bother telling us hours have been subtracted.

It's completely disrespectful and a total joke. And it's infuriating that they think this is normal and okay- it isn't.

I think it's a widespread behavior but it's not a company directive and it's not encouraged by any means.

Hey everyone,
I just saw this post right now and I feel it’s an important one. Unless this is my state and my particular store,we have a widespread deceitful practice going on. I have brought this particular issue up for awhile now and it’s going nowhere and/or getting worse. Can we please keep this thread going because I would like to hear follow ups. I am preparing to contact the labor board within the next week or so. This has to be resolved and I am floored that my faithful co workers are so compliant and never question why this is being done! My particular store is NOT unionized and I don’t know if I have the energy to perhaps push for our store to be a union store. I am a longtime worker who questions why on earth I stay with this company every day ! I HAVE gone to management and it’s not that they don’t care,it’s that there is a million other things they have to tend to while being severely understaffed.

If you are in California contact the California State Labor Board. The Manager cannot due this in California. It violates California State Labor Law. Sears tried it and got in trouble.

Does anyone know if NJ has a law similar to the one in New York? I hope so as this has been happening since the beginning of the year and the constant changes in schedule are really disruptive

There is an audit trail that is created with every schedule change. It includes edit details (add/delete), date, time and colleague number of the person who made the edit. AST, MBA, anyone with access to the desktop can see the audit. State laws differ on when charges can be made but 24 - 48 hrs without notice is unreasonable.

Under New York's Fair Workweek Law, retail employers must: Provide workers with schedules 72 hours in advance. Allow workers to decline last-minute shifts. Not cancel a scheduled shift with less than 72 hours' notice.

That happened to me too!!! And I don’t check the schedule all the time and she would be adding me on days 24-48 hours in advance when I thought I was off. HR is definitely NO help. I called them about it. This incompetent manager is still working and on top of that she is very nasty and lazy and has never had a leadership job before. I can’t believe what some of these managers are allowed to get away with. I think there are some state laws against this sort of thing, you have to research it in your state. And always print out your schedules to document the edits she made so late for evidence.

Manager said they can change our schedule every 12 hours. A colleague came in and had been taken off the schedule and was told to go home. Others had the same thing happen. Total lack of respect.

Once your schedule is posted, take a screenshot which will show the date and time
