Maybe it will sound insensitive because I know that many of you are very worried after being laid off, but I believe that those who remain will decide faster than ever to leave this place because the pressure on them will become enormous. Some managers are already indirectly indicating that expectations could rise significantly.

I had been working there for only about 9 months, so I wasn't even ranked yet. But I personally felt like I was doing at least an okay job. I had just gotten a monthly award and a fancy parking pass, and had just finished qualifying a new tool of fab-wide importance ahead of schedule. I shocked to be let go because I thought I was safe because I had one of the highest experience-to-salary ratios on the team (over 4 years experience at other semiconductor companies).
No layoff will slowdown the attriction for a while. If you can quit or have 12 weeks of severance, why should I leave?
Once the wave is passed and if I survived I'll start to apply. I'll wait for september, to get at least the espp.
No, they don't have any secret rating. It's just the top dude has a brain fa-t and all management chain amplifies it down the rank. Once it was to get rid of all people without graduate degree. Done. Then he wanted top ranking college graduates. All BSU and UI graduates get tanked or bad ratings, and UCLA NCGs get 2x salary offers. Then, he wants women and LGBT in managers' positions. Easy breathy! New managers' positions are created in the blink of the eye (like they did not have enough managers before). Thing is, once he gets a new brilliant idea, all previous success stories turn into pumpkin.
It's much better to work for a company with a sensible manager rather than "charismatic" psychopathic freak, be it musk, bezos or sanj.
Do you think there is a double rating/review system?
One for the employees just a carrot to motivate them. And the other is a true rating, where people are lined up in the order to let go. And a good manager keeps collecting evidence behind peoples backs to let them go?
I would definitely start applying to other companies. Get out in front of all the layoffs before you have more to compete with. I’ve seen plenty get laid off already who were excellent. Those people were so shocked they thought their high praises and fantastic reviews would keep them safe. Very sad.
Yeah, I thought I was safe during the round last week because I've always been highly rated. But now that I know that doesn't protect you I started worrying and updating my resume and LinkedIn. And now that I've already done that work I feel like I might as well start applying places even if I don't get laid off.
