Thread regarding Micron Technology Inc. layoffs

Any other impacted workers feel that healthcare costs where a factor?

I'm curious if other good performers that where let go also had major medical costs? Being self insured Micron would see some immediate cost benefits from terminating employees that are incurring substantial healthcare bills.

Almost certain that health costs played a role.

I am in a similar situation. I had outrageous health care costs last year . It was the first time in 4 years that I met the deductible, otherwise had never been an issue

Actually I got cut and I'm on my spouse's plan. But I did go on Paid Family Leave back in September for 4 weeks. I think this may be why I was targeted.

I had 30+ years with the company. Was on an LOA to get treatment for my heath condition. Had returned to work in January and was informed I was being eliminated. I believe this is why I was targeted. You have health coverage, just don't use it.

I was let go recently. My wife who was covered under my Micron insurance, required $24k infusions per quarter to treat her Corhn's condition. A co-worker being treated for heart issues over the last few years was let go as well. Another worker overseas, who frequently had to take time off for medical reasons was let go as well. Coincidence maybe?

Probably a lot more than an idea. The majority of Micron's health insurance is in 'Self Insured' plans, thus Micron, not the insurance provider flips the bill. I suspect workers who incur high medical costs got targeted.

The Self-Insured Group Health Plan includes a variety of self-insured plans. .... If a plan is self-insured, benefits are paid directly out of the general assets of the Employer. There is no special fund or trust or insurance from which benefits are paid. The Employer has hired the Claims Administrator listed in the accompanying chart to process claims. The Claims Administrator does not serve as an insurer, just a claims processor. ..... The Employer is ultimately responsible for providing self-insured plan benefits, not the listed Claims Administrator.

I got cut and always had large health care costs.

Would that be grounds for a lawsuit if someone could prove it? I got cut and had some pretty major medical bills last year.

That's an interesting idea. I got cut and are probably a little over average but nothing extreme as far as health care costs.
