Thread regarding Micron Technology Inc. layoffs

The reputation is very bad

I am ashamed that I am still here. If the job market was a little better, I would leave and never look back.
People outside do not have a good opinion of this company at all, if they ever had a positive opinion to begin with.
Are our higher ups even aware of how much they have ruined the company's reputation?

If you don't like the scenery, change the scenery until you find the one you are looking for. This is only a job and you should find the one that gets you where you need to be. If Micron isn't a good fit for you, find the company that is and make it happen.

It's not possible to change teams at micron, once you got bulls eye painted on your back (be it your age or something else). And you don't know about it before hands. You talk to a hiring manager that you know well for decades, and he is enthusiastic... only to go crickets and not looking into your eyes a day later. You better believe that bureaucratic toxicity goes through the roof now. They are cooking their statistical books with people's lives. Nobody gives a jack about experience, productivity, actual performance, or what happens to the company in the future. It's new culture: managers must hit targets for color, race, gender, NCGs from top schools, average age of the team, and implement revolving door aka "Un-regretted Attrition".
Yes, many companies do that now, but not all of them. It is a good question to ask at the interview: "do you have a curve?", "do you have revolving door policy"? - and if you don't get direct assertive answer, think again if you like to play yearly Russian roulette with your career, or are you really that desperate professionally.

Things are the same at WD and Seagate. All these big companies have good teams and bad teams. If you're not liking it, look to change teams (when possible). Bad managers will be under the spotlight when team members leave for another team within the company.

Good grief, it's a downturn! The economy, as with the tech sector, will always have its peaks and valleys. It doesn't matter who leads the company, layoffs happened under Appleton, Durcan, and now Mehrotra. It's happened under both Republican and Democratic Presidents.

The sun will rise again, I promise.

There is nothing really wrong with micron and nothing wrong coming back to micron. It is purely the question how much micron is willing to value and invest in a particular person.
For many it may be best to apply elsewhere. I left micron some time ago, as soon as i got an opportunity to step up, and it happened to be external.

I would come back if there is a good opportunity.
