Bed Bath & Beyond's business model: Treat workers as worthless merch

When Google sacked 12,000 employees in January, the workers received a minimum of 16 weeks’ pay, along with stock vesting, extended health benefits and job placement services. When Microsoft erased 10,000 jobs in January, it offered “above market” severance pay and stock options, plus six months of health care and career transition help.

In New Jersey, Bed Bath & Beyond recently closed shop and gave bupkis, so now most of its 1,300 workers are scrambling for a paycheck because there was no safety net. Perhaps you should remember that, next time you’re shopping for a shower curtain.

Not just bed bath but other major retailers out there. 0 severance unless you have a supervisor or managerial title next to your name.
Full time workers are just full time labor. They do the heavy duty lifting that part timers won’t do.
This article is just a hit peace on a company that is already obsolete. Jr editorial write trying to be and sound like an elitist

You can easily be replaced by customer self serve checkouts. Why do you believe extended pay and benefits are warranted if you are let go?

Vendor came in yesterday and was literally laughing at the state of the company. Said we should all have already had different jobs. He's not wrong.

Hilco's consignment deal is going to literally do nothing. Everyone knows this, the stock declining even further so far today speaks to that as well. It's like someone whos is on life support drinking a cup of Emergen-C.

Current employees should look at this and ask whether they are next to be put out in the cold. Watch out for yourselves as no one else in this company will be doing it. There are many opportunities out there. Take into account health care benefits in future employment.

Who cares, the company is dead. Google and Microsoft aren’t. Move on. You all had plenty of time to look for something new. Everywhere has been hiring. Wahhhh no severance
