Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Investing in automation

I think the push for automation will lead to more layoffs…

Walmart said on Tuesday it expects around 65% of its stores to be serviced by automation by the fiscal year 2026.
In a press release, the U.S. retail giant said around 55% of packages that it processes through its fulfillment centers will be moved to automated facilities and unit cost average could improve by around 20%.

You can thank the under 30 crowd for the sudden and extraordinary push toward automation, robotics and AI.

No its simply a business innovation & progression. It will be a better way of doing business for the reasons you have listed. It is where retail is going.

You can thank the under 30 crowd for the sudden and extraordinary push toward automation, robotics and AI. They’ve been indoctrinated into the woke universe.

But from the corporate standpoint, robots and automation don’t call in. They aren’t late for work. They don’t take overlong breaks. They don’t mouth off. They don’t steal from their employers. They don’t lie. Walmart will be better off and more profitable with fewer associates like the ones above.

Isn't a good thing? Doesn't everyone on this forum hate working for and at Walmart?
As this progresses you may not need to work there, right?

Not only Walmart but many industrial companies too. The lack of available labor /cost of that labor is driving more automation (placing more demand on a fragile US electric grid - watch out EV owners). Also, the new AI systems seemed poised to eliminate other jobs.

Not looking good for the future of labor.
