Thread regarding IBM layoffs

A recruiter here... I was RA'd after 12+ years with the company.

IBM's moving our jobs to Costa Rica (and other low cost countries)... We are also pushing bots as well to help hiring managers through self-service. If you used these bots you know that they are not good at all.

Some of talent acquisition employees located in Raleigh, NC will be kept but the rest will be let go.

This plan is nuts. The management is clueless and IBM will pay for this mistake big time.

Seems like our elected officials should be made aware of this. Not that it will change the outcome but at least expose how companies like this are moving jobs out of America.

Now you are starting to get it. IBM is downsizing quickly due to adopting the new hybrid cloud strategy thus doesn’t need near as many people. IBM has concentrated the focus on fewer customers who have larger potentials to spend money on the new hybrid cloud strategy. This doesn’t mean IBM goes cold Turkey and stops hiring, but it does mean IBM will be quite selective, and concentrate on the new strategy (hybrid cloud) while letting the old strategy (legacy HW and SW) fade. In NA, pay attention to who lost their jobs and why. IBM for the most part utilized offshoring to eliminate NA jobs this time. Why? Because it’s far easier to layoff and outsource in NA vs Europe, so NA took the brunt of the cuts. Watch for managers to be impacted next week. They will for the most part get to move to open non-management positions within IBM. One of the perks of being in IBM management (you rarely have to say goodbye)

So recruiting will become a sxitshow. Sounds like ibm is deprioritizing hiring. Interesting.

To the person who replied “file a lawsuit” we can’t. Their only measurement was driving distance to Raleigh, which is fair. Everyone else was let go. ALL! In their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. We had all ages and were all let go. Their is no discrimination to prove. That’s the easy way to go around for IBM and ensure no lawsuit would hold in court. They moved some VPs from Armonk to Raleigh before the announcement, so that was it. Stop saying “lawsuit”. Would you pay for it? In this economy? We need that freaking package now. Market is scarce!!!

Sorry you lost your job. I am sure better things will come out your way. Many of the jobs are moving to Costa Rica. However Costa Rica employees are not responding. Many of the campaigns within Accenture moved to Costa Rica because of the cheap labor, but they broke.
Hang in There, IBM is a horrible company that discriminates against older employees. I am sure that you as the recruiter was told to hire young employees. Am I correct?
Look at the posts below. Most of the people RA was over 40.
You guys need to get together a file a lawsuit against IBM.
