Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Who wins if Teradata is taken over? the usual people of course

While revenue is declining, there's enough ARR so that this place won't fold overnight and still allow the ELT to milk it a bit longer. However, pressure will mount and this place won't be an ongoing concern. Should this place be taken over, all the people that actually do the work will get the short end of the stick and chump change. That is, probably laid off and some small sum. Whereas, ELT and their gangs will be taken care of with their golden parachutes and big compensation packages for running this place into the ground and delivering it to the suitor on a silver plate.

But would any company really want to buy this company? probably not but if they do they probably demand a round or two of slimming down first before they consider so they don't pick up much liability. Thoughts?

Dell will be a good suitor. They cannot grow just with PC business and their server side is competing with CSPs. They cannot get into cloud just as an infrastructure as a service because the real money is the next tier, platform as a service. Dell is Teradata long term customer with very strong relationship. Teradata can help Dell to be a platform as a service provider. A strong partnership not just on the sales side but also technology side can optimize Teradata strength on large work load performance and super high concurrency similar to Teradata dominates the price/performance in the on-prem world. It is not a sure thing but It will be a win-win for Dell/Teradata.

Who will buy Teradata? Why? Only a PE firm who wants to milk the service revenue until the company dies and they would only buy at huge discount. It will be like the Walking Dead - but wait it is like the Walking Dead right now. So it can't get worse - at least the ELT goat rodeo will come to an end.

What company board in their right minds would buy TD? It’s not worth the trouble. The technology is old and the customers can be lured away and don’t have to be bought.

Teradata has nothing to offer. Nothing innovative with their offerings. Customers are migrating to other platforms with better at a better ROI. Why buy TD when the customers will come to you anyway?

Key Questions for any takeover / possible purchaser:

  1. Is the technology worth paying for?
  2. Is the customer list worth paying for?

Nothing new about management getting the big payday but would be tragic for those who stayed, really do the work and sold a bill of goods by management.
