Thread regarding Meta / Facebook layoffs

The more FB lays off the better off we all are

I just wish the entire company would fold. It would be better for humanity.

I agree with the OP! Facebook has done nothing but cause issues that are negative towards the human race in general. I'd like to see FB and other just go away so we can once again have a civil society.

With savings of around 1 million in cash/stock and a passive income of $2,500 per month, I am thinking of going to a low-cost destination in South America

@3hom+1lV9b9x1 We were told for years, especially from Bill Gates, that there was a shortage of labor in the tech industry. Women were pushed into CS degrees. Companies lobbied to increase H1Bs. In reality, this was all a trick just to push wages down, which is what we will see now.

@2npn+1lV9b9x1 conditions aren't going to improve in the tech industry, there are way too many tech professionals by far outpacing the demand. salaries moving forward are going to be a fraction of what they've been over the last ~15 years, so instead of wasting your savings on travel it would be smarter to invest in your own business that you can grow during the excruciatingly tough times that are ahead.

there is no waiting out the storm here. this downturn is going to be more severe with a longer duration than you seem to expect.

@2npn+1lV9b9x1 Advice you say? Indeed! Go to Mexico, preferably somewhere in the border areas. But do tell us your name and destination first. We want to meet you and show you around.

I was impacted by the recent layoffs at Nov and as an E5 employee at Meta, I applied to over 20 companies and received an offer from SNAP with a total compensation of 410k, which is higher than my previous TC of 370k at Meta (after the stock crash). However, due to the current economic situation and rumors of possible layoffs at SNAP, I am considering taking a year off to travel and return to the industry when conditions improve. With savings of around 1 million in cash/stock and a passive income of $2,500 per month, I am thinking of going to a low-cost destination in South America. I would appreciate some advice.

I think we'd be better off without any social media. We were doing just fine with message boards.

not sure why facebook affects you so much. most people don't even use it anymore and those that do are basically fossils. livejournal, myspace, and napster are all still around, and about as relevant as facebook.
