Truth is, you're making too many assumptions and ignoring the vast universe of remote work. There is no need to wait - apply NOW. Tons of positions, look again. You can also have side gigs, double dip. Better comp, fully remote, work life balance. Maybe even start your own business.

Performance reviews are meaningless. You can work 40-50 hrs/week and make a fortune.
Don't wait for the next round of layoffs.

Truth is that we are in the middle of a storm. We have to wait 1 to 2 years for the dust to cleat. Very few positions opened at Nvidia and others you mentioned. Right, start a side project. Then work 50h-60h/week to keep strong performance at the main job plus 20h/week minimum on a second job. What a miserable and unstainable option.

Peformance reviews are more strict. This is now the norm on all faangs. I doubt anyone expecting a good performance can work fewer than 60h/week.

A better opportunity defined by more than compensation. Adobe, Unity, NVidia offer better opportunities. You can also have side gigs, double dip. Better comp, fully remote, work life balance. Maybe even start your own business.

Time to meet more people and get the remote job you truly deserve.

At the moment, which employers are giving people better opportunities? Outside of FAANG, expect a 50% decrease in compensation.

I dont know how many people bought homes far away. I personally know 3 people.

In case you haven't been paying attention, there's much more than just RTO influencing a voluntary departure. Your 3 hour commute corner case generalization is atypical and practically impossible; a sane person won't even commute 1 hr one way. This is all about opportunity cost across the board - not just RTO. Better opportunities at other employers. Watch very carefully and see for yourself. Clock is ticking.

I doubt 1% will quit due to RTO. I know a dude commuting 3h one way to get to Seattle.

Hopefully the stock goes up a lot, too.
