Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Macy's WAS a very good place to work

It was a very good place to work. After reopening from Covid and laying off 4000 people and combining roles , it changed. Best talent left or was let go. Now when Macys hires , most stores can only get mediocre or worse people. The stores have no professional standards. Anything, anyone goes. Many of those running stores or departments are clueless. New staff aren’t trained or held accountable, older veteran associates are left wondering. Senior execs are riding a paycheck. Not a great formula for success.
Too bad.

Couldn't agree more, @3jcc+1lC7ROJe.

It started before Covid by getting rid of key areas and departments in the store. One of those areas being HR. Now you have to submit a ticket and there is nobody in the stores you can speak to if there is a problem. Big city stores need HR the most, but the company does not care.

I’ve seen more people let go since JG has been at the helm than the 15 years before that under TL. One thing that hasn’t changed is Macys constantly asking employees to donate to whatever causes it’s promoting. Nowadays that’s a little tough. Many store and office closures as well, part of it is due to online but not all. Plus seeing Asset Protection so decimated and relying more on IP cameras doesn’t help as theft is terrible.

Totally agree. I was forced out almost a year ago . I loved what I did, just hated the backstabbing and politics by the “friends “ club that Menlo Park had going on. No support for those that got results and even more support for those that did nothing but collect a paycheck and did nothing but yes the boss to death.

I agree and really since 2016 is when it started to go downhill. Stores getting slower and slower, MTech had a huge layoff that year and several smaller layoffs after that, including the debacle of the Field Services RIF in 2019. Other corporate positions and District Office closures. Really hasn’t been a good run for JG. Good luck next year when you retire I honestly wish you well. Yes times were better under TL for sure. I hope TS can help turn things around and not run Macys like it is now.
