Thread regarding 3M layoffs

I'm done waiting to be laid off

I refuse to wait for severance. I see leaving my current job as an opportunity to reclaim both my self-worth and self-esteem. Being associated with a poorly run company is not something I'm proud of, and I'm determined to avoid the stress and frustration that comes with it. Frankly, I can't just decide not to do my job - I take pride in my work and want to be part of a company that values and supports its employees. By leaving now, I'm taking charge of my career and my future.

You are doing the right thing. Working at 3M crushes your soul. Leave before the toxicity makes you sick.

When I was laid off, it was a total surprise. I had been with the company for 10 years. I had little rainy day savings, but about $120k in my 401K. Back then, there was no internet to find a job. You had to scour want ads in newspapers and network with a telephone.

It took me 8 months to find a new job.
I had to move out of state.
Thank goodness I didn’t have a house to sell.
Because I was naive, ignorant, and scared to death I cashed out my 401k, including paying the 10% early withdrawal penalty.

I declined cobra because it was about $1,800/month. I wasn’t offered a severance package. I was so busy looking for a job, neglected collecting unemployment benefits.

I received my first paycheck from my new employer with about $10k in my savings account leftover from my 401k.

I changed employers 3 times before finally landing a stable job.

I’ll retire in 3 years with a net worth north of $6 million.

3M HR will go to extraordinary lengths to keep from rewarding you with at least fair compensation. Keep moving forward, it gets better.

Yes, 3M brainwashing is real and borderline religious/cultlike. Believe it or not, you can survive and even thrive in the scary world outside of Mother Mining.

There is life outside of 3M even though the brain washing narrative makes you feel like it doesn't exist. I find it similar to a religious sect.
