Almost 30,000 Amazon employees (or roughly 10% of corporate workforce) have signed an internal petition to fight the company's return-to-office mandate. 27,000 Amazon employees have been laid off. So at least 20% of Amazon employees want to work remotely, but Cookie lady won't have any of it. Hand deep in the cookie jar.

I thought these S-team creatures were finally turning into empathetic humans with hearts and souls when they rolled out the new Leadership principles during Covid - Strive to be Earth’s Best Employer, Success and Scale Bring Broad Responsibility. Now I realize it was just a ploy to get more employees so they could cash in on the Covid demand. They changed their tone quite quickly after that, back to being the sub-humans I initially assumed they were.

Yes, it's more quality productivity at home. You got more coding done and the code was higher quality. If you wanted to, you could work a little later. Before, you were too mentally tired to bother doing any work after coming home because of the commute.

This sounds like some your HR "partner"/control freak would write. If you cannot "brainstorm" over video or chat, you likely never got anything done at office. You only thought you were doing work just because you showed up at office. Maybe the psychology/english majors need to socialize face to face at work?

Conclusion: this will be the 4th/5th round in a series of mass layoffs/terminations at Amazon in almost as many months. Amazon made it a 'slow death' gradual process to encourage employees to voluntarily leave v.s. wait. Amazon will also face unlawful discrimination cases/lawsuits/class action from those who aren't able to return from office due to a variety of factors. This also considers their Amazon's archaic approval-chain process for exceptions.

Mass layoffs are frequently used as a disguise to cover up unlawful discrimination. If an employer uses layoffs to target a protected class of workers, such as females or older workers, the employer may be engaging in unlawful discrimination. In other words, even though the employer may be legitimately facing economic hardship and may legitimately be using layoffs to help, it may apply its layoff decisions in an unlawful manner.

Probably about 20-30% corporate layoffs total by the year end. Already 10%.

But is it quality productivity what is gained from WFH? Or is it just more hours answering emails, getting on Teams\Zoom meetings with another 20+ people who don't really add any value to the convo, creating decks, creating reports that now Chat GTP or other AIs can do in two seconds for us?
Yes, mostly back in the office, brainstorming and working closely with our workgroup team is much more valuable and profitable than WFH. More companies will return to the office.

After over three years, there's a general consensus that WFH is more productive than in office. However, that doesn't matter, and employees are being force to return to office. What does that tell you? The system doesn't care about productivity, but wants control every aspect of your life. What other conclusion can you make?

If you lost 50% of your compensation and then Cookie lady says "we are confident...", would you trust her or tell her to get her hand out of the Cookie jar and leave?
