Thread regarding Giant Eagle layoffs

What's Going on w/Your Prices?

I see someone posted about this below, but as someone who does NOT work for the company (rather another Pgh based company on this site) thought I'd jump over here to ask what's up with your prices? I always knew Giant Eagle wasn't cheap but I can't afford to shop there anymore, which is sad because I want to support another local company. Every time I go to the store the prices have gone up again. $9/lb for cheese!? The great new.perjs program!? It's all a rip-off! And why are prices for the exact same item more expensive at Market District? I know (most likely) anyone reading this made these decisions but shame on you Giant Eagle!

"Management must not care" in the last post above.

Customer here: I paid $19 for cheesecake for somebody's birthday the other night. I was running late so I had no choice. I know the same size cake is at least $5 cheaper at Krogers. It would be different if this was maybe the best cheesecake known to man, but it was nothing special. Most of the prices are just a little more, but every now and then you'll have something wacky high over there. Management cares or what they would have done something about it.

Agree, Giant Eagle's prices are way too high and have been for years, however, people are really being fooled by Shop 'n Save. A month or so ago, I shopped at Shop 'n Save (which I love bc it's closer to my home) a couple weeks in a row, buying very similar items to what I would buy at Giant Eagle...spent $20 more. Last week, ran into S&S to pick up creamer...same creamer $5.99 GE, and Walmart. $6.49 at S&S!!! We need more competition in the Pgh market!

Don’t worry about not supporting a local company. GE had sent over 300 corporate jobs to India in the past year. Not the local company it used to be. Sad.

End of the Fiscal year is 7/1. We're behind budget by a few million dollars in order to make bonus, so we've cranked up prices to fill the void.

We also cut the ads to save money...but come holiday season where we need more sales, the ad will magicall come back!

Perks is also a big rip off. The value of your perk on myPerks is pathetic.
