We'll know who's getting laid off by April. At least I hope I understood that correctly. There is no reason to tell employees there'll be layoffs and then leave them guessing and stressing for months after that. I am not looking forward to layoffs, but I am happy we'll finally get to know what's going on.

Lay-offs to come soon. Disney has cast members over a barrel when it comes to being laid-off. Do to the current economic, barely-able-to-pay-my-rent devastation, cast members will have to take the severance offered even though there could be cases for suing Disney. But, hopefully, some will sue. The biggest question to consider, to document, is have you faced a hostile work environment. Is the overall all "department" of HR 2023 at Disney hostile to some employees? Title VII hostile work environment claim?: The key is that the conduct must be related to the employee’s race, s-x, RELIGION, AGE, etc. in order for the mistreatment to be unlawful under Title VII and related laws.
Most companies call them DEI targets, with the focus on hiring and promoting minorities.
Even "conservative" companies have DEI quotas for minority hiring, promotions and retaining employees. (This current Disney lay-off can not be compared to the Covid situation. Covid was a different game, most all companies were laying-off all groups.)
@4lxl+1lHTENgE: Or, perhaps, someone that knows what they are talking about with regards to Disney's DEI quotas. They exist!!! Additionally, DEI is not "automatically" always a left/right issue. Yet, I would agree that a "midwit," as you described, might consider DEI ONLY a left/right issue.
@3saf+1lHTENgE the absurd "left/right" dichotomy is the epitome of a midwit take
There are many thoughtful, and thought-provoking comments on this post, and I am continuing to research, deliberate and study all responses. It is important to note that Disney 2023+ is first and foremost DEI-based with regards to Human Resources. It is the new core, the new foundation of this department, and the whole company. DEI is the umbrella that everything else falls under. Ms. Sonia Coleman, Disney's newly appointed Chief Human Resources Officer is the designed, leads and continues this movement at Disney. (The research on her policies and influence on Disney DEI is interesting, to say the least. If you are curious, do a little research. This website does not allow political content or I would provide links.) Thus, with regards to lay-offs (and future hiring practices), DEI, Board/Executive approved, quotas will prevail. For so many, your strong work experience or expertise, "tenure" with Disney, amazing quality of work, wonderful, inclusive team, employee and business partner relations, etc. will NOT count if you are not in a minority class.
it's reducing individuals to a base identity to take from the straight to give to the g-y, take from the white to give to the black, and take from the cis to give to the trans. because to midwits, that's what's considered "fair".
I have to give up on that "woke" thinking in the media that appears nobody can fully understand and describe what it is. Yet, it is brought about in situations where some perceive themselves as unfavorable for whatever reason, or per media influence, particularly on the extreme right thinking. (I have to acknowledge that though I don't want to sound political, because it is not my intention, I am dragged into this way of thinking, just trying to comment on situations like this)
A simple question: how a company knows who is straight or g-y? Who is "cis' or "trans"? From the demographics standpoint, all that they know about you when you apply and are hired by a company is if you disclose your ethnicity or race; that is voluntary disclosing. Do companies have secret scouts to monitor and find out very intimate details about personal lives? And do you think that the HR departments have meetings to go over this issue to determine who will stay and who will go?
Are they making assumptions on who is who to make a list of who will be laid off based on se-ual orientation? They make lists of people but usually are based on preferences, and those preferences are not on orientation; they are based on connections and likeability for the individual managers.
I am non-white, and I was laid off; it hurt big time then because I was performing well, and many other non-whites and whites were also laid off ( I still don't understand why I have to assign an ethnicity to an individual). However, I had to move on and stop dwelling on the past and victimizing myself on "why me?"
"Fair" does not exist, and those midwits that you are referring to, I can assure you that, for the most part, they are not in the minority realm.
I don’t know why some people here are victimizing themselves, by playing the race game here.
what do you think "equity" means?
I don’t know why some people here are victimizing themselves, by playing the race game here. It is absolutely not true that whites are being targeted to be laid off.
I was laid off during the infamous Covid 19 wave, and I can attest that many who were also laid off then were not white, on the contrary.
Please, don’t play that game! The people that was laid off during COVID has one thing in common: they had been in the company 15 years or more. After all this time, I learned, and I was told that all was a business decision. We all are disposable and they saved millions by cutting on pensions. That was one of the main reasons to target people of a certain age and seniority.
I imagine there will be some lawsuits. Maybe some media attention if the networks have the b_ _ _ _!
Disney doesn't exactly say they favor younger employees, but they DO. Also if you're non black, you'll have a bigger chance of being laid off.
Sadly, CMs laid-off will be caught with having to choose between taking severance to pay for their rent and food during high inflation and rising rental cost (18% in Orlando area since 2021) and the consideration of filing lawsuits.
It's pretty easy to figure out. If you're not onboard with the agenda, you'll be out. Curious how well Disney monitors its employees. Post something that your new HR DEI director would dislike? You're gone. Might want to scrub social media
