Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

40% layoffs needed

Majority of the employees with10+ years of experience are lazy, doing second jobs, playing tennis during day times, but they making huge salary and perks. They are easily replaceable with fresh grads. Lots of corruption, favoritism, inefficiency. Qcom needed a full restructure, reorg by cutting old fats bodies, infusing fresh grads. Qcom can survive without these 40% fat bodies. I have been employed from last 15 years, I work only 2 hours a day. I know how to get 4 rating and survive.

anon posted "while execs get paid 10s of millions of $s. The qualcomm way."

Yes sir. Same thing only different in 1999 when they sold the "non-existent infrastructure unit " to Ericsson and reneged on the stock option agreement they gave us. IJ, DS, RS and others got very rich when Q stock went up exponentially after the dirty deal.

Before the transfer happened DS said if we didn't sign a severance package that gave a prorated amount of our stock options, it would be considered a voluntary termination.
An involuntary voluntary separation basically.

RS even stated in an article that he was so rich he felt guilty. As he should.

Qualcomm actually was a great place to work hard in its early years. The culture couldn't be beat or even matched in those years.

Many of us were surprised how fast it turned on us.

Targeting teams like MST will help since they are filled with dead weights and are too heavy. Same efficiency can be achieved with a fraction of the workforce in the team.

You will enjoy this (original post), manager told me big layoffs coming in April. I will be given a package after 10+ years at the company. More than happy to move on, roughly more than 10% of team impacted, mainly older employees being targeted 10-15 years experience at the company. Claim that the company over-hired during pandemic, but really managing bottom-line. 2023 revenue way down, have to reduce opex to increase stock price while execs get paid 10s of millions of $s. The qualcomm way.

Would love to mentor them but they all want to work from home. Q needs to enforce in office days. New grads that joined in the last 3 years feel like they joined 6 months ago.

Maybe you should spend more time mentoring the new grads rather than playing tennis.

its because the fresh grads are too d-mb to get anything done independently. We old timers can get more than that done in 25% of the time. Since there is no competition from the fresh grads, we end up playing tennis. Its very simple really.

Brain dead customer engineers too stupid to see they have been automated. The smart ones have already taken new positions, better management. Q will save millions when the kickbacks are cut off.

Qualcomm only has 2 businesses that make a profit (QTL and QTC). The whole business runs off of inventions by dead people. So there are a ton of people Q can get rid of even new hires suck and can’t invent anything

Head counts are increased by several greedy guys who want to be promoted to VPs/SVPs. In Qualcomm, headcount is one of barometer to justify the upper level promo. It is the reason why Qualcomm folks become more political and diplomatic without having the strong technical skill sets.
