It’s a bad way to do layoffs, which experts say should be minimal, compassionate, and clearly communicated. Doing so little by little will leave workers on edge and drive away people Meta wants to keep, and there’s also a good chance it will hurt the company from growing in the future.

After all these cut, will the people inside the mateverse get the legs?
Honestly, who cares, eat all three free meals and, take the money and run.
“ One theory is they did it to keep the good hires away from their competitors”
Laughable, the only people that buy into this theory are DEI hires. If this were true then they will have no problem getting a new job from all those competitors.
Who cares what a rag like Vox has to say? They won't even exist by the end of next year.
"experts say" LMAO
I am sorry for the folks laid off, but if they can get a few months' severance, that's as good as it ever gets.
Most of the FAANGs over-hired. One theory is they did it to keep the good hires away from their competitors. A good comparison is here:

- Doing over10K of layoff in a round is not little by little. Would you rather see 50K in one round?
- Where else workers can go to at this time ? Microsoft? Google?
- Company got into today's situation because of over hiring in the past couple years. Companies need to ask themselves what are the core products that actually bringing in revenues than having loads of pet projects.
- It wouldn't be soon that company is thinking about growing. Company needs to stop the bleeding. Talk about the starting of growth after 2024.
The severance package being given to workers is great. Have you looked at what other companies are offering? I'm sorry that whomever is losing their job but getting a few months cushion is more than most are getting.
Just in four months Meta laid of more than 23,000 workers which is ~ 30% of its workforce. Those layoffs were done in a compassionate way.
