I do not understand. Most stores are under a tremendous amount of pressure to keep within our budgeted hours, however, once a regional visit or an M.M. visit is announced, the stores being visited spend, spend and spend more! We are called out for being ten hours over, while the visit stores are 400-500 hours for a single week. Regionals and M.M. stay home so the stores can remain profitable!

Part of any announced visit in any retail store is to get the environment back into shape.
If anyone believes that a person on a visit believes that the store 'looks like that' all the time you are completely wrong. We all know from the highest position to the lowest the docks and floor don't look like all the time, or even 50% of the time.
Other factors are to insure proper staffing levels, clean up objective numbers such as RTV and so on. Then in private call out opportunities from store VP on down.
In refence to ' unannounced visits' they have happened in the past. Mostly at small locations near the hotels were people were staying. With restrictions in expenses and time, travel and number of visits it needs to be very organized & structured now days. Smaller doors simply are not worth the time to 'visit' as the volume doesn't sink the fleet. The larger store are the money makers and get the attention.
To follow up with the last reply, when corporate visitors are coming, we perfectly prepare the regular Macy’s departments as though they are still the preferred areas to shop. However, it’s the messy Macy’s Backstage area that is always busy.
The dog and pony shows are just ridiculous. The regional should show up unannounced then they would know how lazy skme employees really are. The hours wasted on the "perfectly folded table " are just that wasted hrs.
I agree! I keep saying this over and over. Those of us who manage our budget get the short end of the stick! Our hours get cut and we are the responsible ones. Fix your stores without outside help or spending hours like there is no tomorrow, or be honest with your Regional teams and show them the reality of your stores. Store Managers, own your roles!! In part, thanks to these irresponsible stores, profit tanked last year and we’re getting tiny bonuses after working our tails off all year long! So unfair.

Better yet get rid of the Regionals and M.M.’s and save a tremendous amount of payroll. They really don’t do anything to serve the customer or help the stores anyway.
