Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Tomorrow it’s official.

Being that it’s the eve of my official separation from GF tomorrow I wanted to say thanks to this website and the people that contribute meaningful information and opinions. I worked for GF for 7 years. I’ve been in the industry a total of 25+ years and have worked multiple GF sites. I’ve had great times, been challenged in a good way and have seen the ups and downs. With that said, my last 2-3 years at GF I’ve witnessed a steep decline in work culture, strategic direction and quality of management. I had been actively seeking another job when I was selected for the layoff. In fact I started looking and interviewing in November when TC announced layoffs. So in many ways it was the best possible thing that could’ve happened. Having 3 months fully paid to search for employment followed by a generous cash severance package and cash payments for medical benefits is great. I hope all my former coworkers there find happiness and stability in the future. To GF, I appreciate the severance package and for the years of employment. I think GF has the potential to become a great company, but it will take a change in leadership, ownership and direction. A company’s culture and success is dependent on how you manage it.. TC ran IBM semi operations into the ground and now he’s doing the same with GF and it’s employees. Best of luck everyone, and thanks for the memories. ✌️

@1czz+1lFLY3Cz That occurs on the next regularly scheduled pay day. Which is the 24th. Read your documents. As of midnight tonight you're no longer an employee. Your current health insurance expires after March 31st. Big ole checks on the 24th!

It's not official until I see a severance payment and COBRA lump sum in my bank account....which didn't happen today.

Globalfoundries had the potential to be a 2nd tier semiconductor company. For a moment it looked like it was going to be 3rd tier company, but it drove itself to be securely into a 4th tier slot by its own bad choices and ineptitude.

It easy to blame this on the top leadership, but really it’s all of the leadership and management. Said leadership and management act as if they are peers with their counterparts at Intel, Samsung or even ibm. But the reality is these places have zero respect for them and we are the laughing stock of the semiconductor industry. Ever notice our mgrs are never mgrs in other places if they leave gf?? Globalfoundries is the perfect dumping spot for these other companies trash. The caliber of manager, the leadership and work culture and environment they have created are all 4th tier trash and that is why we are 4th tier.
