If you feel worried, go have a cup of coffee and talk to a friend. Eat a cookie if you like.

What a wonderful statement for Union Pacific that any future leadership has to come from a different railroad. That will encourage your managers to have the courage to care, you betcha!

I sure do miss Jim Young, but he would have been sh-t-canned a long time ago under this Board.

@21zt, I agree 100 percent. He is going to be bad news for the employees of UP.

Bingo! Vena never worked for CSX. I suspect that the board had already extended an offer to another industry veteran prior to the investor's push for Vena, and the board's decision will be announced publicly at the designated time.

Job cuts are not why Fritz is being replaced. The operating ratio is too high and the company didn’t meet the 4th quarter earnings estimates. Vena is a PSR guru and was brought into UP to oversee its implementation. Contrary to what you might have heard, CSX hasn’t backed off PSR. I have friends working there and they say the same things we do about the cuts, lack of manpower, lack of maintenance, etc. I am not sure who said Vena worked for CSX, I don’t believe he has, but he did work under Hunter Harrison who was the inventor of PSR and became CEO of CSX. If Vena comes on many more cuts will be made. The next CEO will be under the microscope and will be tasked with cutting costs and driving profit. Count on it.

Yes Vena is the next presumed CEO for the UP, but he hasn't been elected to it yet or if he's even accepted it. Whoever replaces Fritz is going to be walking a very thin line when they assume control of the company. The company is already doing badly, so the next CEO has to turn it around or face the same fate as Fritz. Hence the thin line i mentioned. Yeah we've all heard this song and dance about the wealthy investors and hedge fund managers, so why repeat it? If Barr is a PSR guru, then why did he leave the CSX, or was he fired from it? The last time I checked, the CSX was quietly getting away or got away from the PSR game. Barr worked for the CSX for 25 years as reported, which is a class 1 RR that Vena never worked for! Vena worked for the CN for 40 years before coming to the UP. So what's the third class 1 Vena worked for? PSR is how it all started in the first place. The job cuts and the closing of locations is partially why Fritz is being replaced. The business started going down and the CEO thought he had it figured out until a hedge fund showed him the door. The UP pi---d off too many people this time. Whoever takes over the CEO position had better have a crystal clear understanding that the men and women of the UP aren't going put up with the BS anymore.

If Barr is going to be replacing Fritz, then why does he report to Gehringer? Why would any CEO report to the very next person under them?

@1bgz. That’s correct. The presumed new CEO is Vena who is the architect of PSR and Barr is following in his footsteps. Both of these individuals will be a disaster for the employees and customers of Union Pacific. The only people that will gain from this are the wealthy hedge fund managers and investors. The will make millions from the short term layoffs and budget cuts that will eventually come. This is a worse case scenario playing out before our eyes and we are powerless to stop it. Every employee should be pressuring their elected representatives to implement new safety and operating standards including eliminating PSR.

Barr isn’t going to be CEO, but he isn’t good for the employees either. He is a PSR guru for CSX and totally believes in the program. Any changes he looks to implement will be to strengthen PSR, not go away from it.

Barr isn’t replacing Fritz. Barr was appointed Senior Vice President of Transportation, not CEO. Get your facts straight before posting something totally wrong. A simple google search would help you to keep from looking totally lost.
