As long as there's desperate immigrants on H1b forever they'll get who they need
Yes they will try to hire, but good luck getting anyone relocate to Boise.
The housing isn’t cheap anyway and other remote jobs are plenty. While micron failed to do remote pretty much
Stupid decision. Semiconductor industry isn't like software. There's barely incoming supply of engineers after the advent of AI. No one studies semiconductors. They're shooting themselves in the foot, will cost them immensely in future.
I was shocked that the most talented engineer in our group was cut for some stupid reasons from the director/VP level. They don't care about Micron's future and don't listen to people.
I think you're misunderstanding how this works. Yeah we lose some good ones and many bad ones. Later on when the market is better, they hire new good ones, some cheap some expensive. Then they go over the process all over again
It’s called politics, Executives will still make millions, DEI will still be funded in the most race accepting free nation to ever exist in the known world, and the people that work for $70-200k a year and 40-80+ hour weeks will make a fraction of the value they produce for the company. But hey, got to make sure share holders are happyish.
R&D cuts were primarily low performers and people earning a lot of money that could be replaced with cheaper alternatives is what I got.
It's called scare tactics. Everyone is working harder now. Even though 5% people are gone, the rest will work 25% harder. And they'll just hire back people again in the next year
