Thread regarding Adidas layoffs

Look in the mirror. Stop spending on pet projects

Ever single dollar you spend on a project or item, requires nearly $25 of sales to support that spend.

So many pet projects that have zero ROI on actually helping sell more product.

Did you really need a huge video wall in gold? Did you really need to build a swimming pool in Herzo? Do you really need to spend $25,000 to build a stage and bring in a A/V vendor for every executive presentation? Do you really need to continue to spend money on things that have zero impact on helping sell more goods and reach more consumers?

Stop wasting money. Every dollar you want to spend you just answer: “How will this sell more product?”

There is no way GC cares nor has the capacity to see the reality. It’s easy to forget that adidas is a 30 BILLION dollar company. You could cost 1000 million dollar deficit and adidas will still be a 30 billion dollar company within the calendar year end.

As bad as it gets or can get: adidas can afford it, and it can get worse.

Someone needs to tell Gianni Conti that every dollar he spends on self-promotion costs 25 in sales. He is in the hundred of millions already.

I love adidas. But moving into year 4 of all emergency all the time with no promotions or raises along with skeleton crews with no backfill and absentee managers has completely burned my out and frustrate me. And everyone has a short fuse and looks shell shocked. The new CEO says he will focus on people but without fixing the issues noted nothing will improve it. I pray that it can be fixed but fun committees can’t do that. Get real and take care of the people. It’s time.

How does the company justify VP‘s and SVP‘s doing international market visits for a month plus???
How does this work with cost control?

I understand the want to be positive but there comes a point where reality must kick in. Seriously, If not, then you really need to get your head out of the clouds and understand the company is in a terrible position, everyone knows it and is no more evident than from today’s announcement. It hurts even more that we really did this all to ourselves. Surplus inventory, bad contracts and terrible projects that go nowhere. It starts with leadership, the Norwegian is a “people person” and he needs to do something to regain the trust of people and their belief in the company. I digress…instead of ridiculous spending on things that bring little value other than face value, spend the money on hiring quality employees who bring value to the brand, increase wages that at least even come close to inflation globally with record highs in Germany and USA and let go of “leaders” who contributed to the ho-e that the company is in. That is how we start to climb out both financially and culturally, but how we navigate the journey in between start to finish will take more than just cutting ridiculous spending, it will take true leaders at the top all the way to the bottom….unfortunately, many people at even the lower M levels who had the respect and positive influence of others are now gone or are too burnt out to care as much as they once did.

And don't waste time here.
I truly think times can soon change but we don't need to wallow in our own mud. We can do it and we can be the ones cleaning it.

Try to make an effort to start the year from scratch, focus and let a little bit of luck help us.
