I also heard there won’t offer any retirement package.
If you want to retire, just retire. Your headcount will save another team member who needs to pay their rent.
Whoever is saying volunteer for layoff doesn’t know what goes on behind the scenes. I was told by a trusted source that no volunteer is allowed. No retirement package! I was told by several different employees in different teams that they all ask to volunteer due to various reasons such as retirement or resigning soon. Management told them no. Compensation team made them to put in layoff reason in the spreadsheet. HR and Legal will review all the reasons and check their previous ratings as well. If you are an above average performer, and your manager put you on the layoff list due to low performance, Legal will question this. Trust me, they are extremely strict and will refuse any volunteers.
If you want a package, you better start NOT doing your job or start acting up to annoy management. They may be put you on the next layoff list.

Also, I would just tell your, manager, you want to let go, they might be happy to not have to choose someone else.
