Boeing to slash about 2,000 white-collar jobs in finance and HR

Despite the growth elsewhere, those corporate positions will be slashed through substantial job cuts and layoffs.

“We expect about 2,000 reductions this year primarily in Finance and HR through a combination of attrition and layoffs,” Boeing confirmed Monday.

I suspect, in addition to moving finance and human resources jobs to India there will be a truckload of engineering jobs that will be moved there as well.

Mainly to replace the engineers that were working in Russia and Ukraine which means a lot of the 20,000 people hired in the last 12 months will be laid off again when the start up Design Center in India starts turning out work.

It’s straight from the Boeing playbook on sourcing white-collar jobs.

Human Resources and accounting are two of the easiest careers to transition to another industry.

Almost every company has an accounting and a human resources group and in almost every industry. So simple to transition out of the aerospace industry. In the long term did these these people a favor.

Most engineers and mechanics, wish it was that easy for them to transition out of the aerospace industry. Better to move To an industry where you don’t haveconstant layoffs and age discrimination.

Best advice is to take classes in another field, and when you have an opportunity change careers. There are only a handful of aerospace companies to work for, and Boeing probably lays off more than any other company in the US. I highly discourage anyone from pursuing a career in this industry and switching industries when you can.

Too much unnecessary stress, and bad managers at Boeing and in the aerospace industry. It will be a disappointing career path for most people. Get out while are you can.

HR's "job" is to protect and serve Boeing only, its always been their only function. I never understood why or how a lot of folks ever got the idea that HR was there to protect / represent the employee. It just goes go to show how effective HR's propaganda has worked on you.

I am glad my HR received a Layoff notice. This women refuses to do her job. When people come to her to report Boeing manager abuse she does nothing a out it. I have heard from others that Boeing rarely if at all fires Boeing managers in these situations. If this is how HR at Boeing handles managers that are out of line. Then why have any HR at Boeing. Lay the entire HR groups off.

Don't be a fool an accept a job at McDonnell oops I mean Boeing in St Louis and move there. You will regret it the minute you arrive in that town.

Boeing has been a lousy place for capable, hardworking, honest people to work for many years. And Boeing is now a "has been" company on the way out. If you made the mistake of making aerospace your career choice and Boeing your company choice, you might want to look here if you need to work for much longer or simply want to do innovative aerospace work:

It's not just the Finance and HR layoffs, it's outsourcing an undisclosed number of jobs to India and forcing managers to unethically rate 10% of their teams as "does not meet" in their performance reviews in order to cut pay, benefits, and bonuses across 10% of the workforce. Greed and avarice at their best. These execs are acting like slumlords treating once great American companies like cheap rental houses where they invest the bare minimum into maintenance, jack the rent to make record returns & profits, sc--w the tenants (employees), run it into the ground and walk away to go do the same somewhere else. Sad state of affairs.

I have 4 layers of management above me that have no idea how to do my job and couldn’t tell you how my job fits into the daily operations at Boeing. I wish at least 2 of those layers were getting laid off. Talk about saving a ton of money and improving morale.

There's always been way to many "white collar" workers at Boeing.
Funny thing is they never realize that without the "blue collar" workers none would have a job.

I feel bad for those who will be affected. My hear goes to them. I have been laid off before - not a good position to be in. To those who are not laid off - upgrade your skills, stay relevant. It will be easier to find othe jobs if/when affected by rif.

The retention ratings are so politicized. You literally have year after year after year of layoffs where everyone’s been downgraded. Yet you have new hires right out of college with no experience who are Immediately R1. Gives everyone a bad taste in your mouth.

That said, I don’t lose any sleep over accounting and HR getting layoffs they’ve been pushing those for years on engineers and techs.

And if one reads further down in the article, you'll see that it's not just HR and Finance folks; it's the forced downrating of 10% of white collar employees period. What's amazing are the number of Boeing managers, some of them potentially executives, who spoke off the record to the Seattle Times reporter at how repugnant it is to be forced to rate subordinates they know are meeting expectations as not having done so. I've never seen so many managers speak out about something; it looks like they took their CEO's call for transparency to heart!

Prelude to outsourcing these functions to Tata Consulting. Same script they followed before outsourcing engineering to WIPRO and IT to CSC &Dell. Exact same script they've been following since 2007. "That's not p-e on your back, it's raining !"
