All IT and IT related contractors have been informed on 2/1/23 that all non-production projects have been paused for 30 days for CIO review. This review has, in fact, been ongoing since August. Contractors have been advised by non-C-suite leadership to seek other employment.

For years and years Walgreens has been telling consulting that thy are phasing out independent consulting and working only with 2 or 3 consulting firm. However, Walgreens keeps on renewing their contracts. Be thankful you lasted this long. Read somewhere the current ceo frowns on consulting.
Where is the 3/19 date coming from?
Pressing the Self destruct button. Looks more of an instant ki-l than gradual phase over to the new model of work . i.e. full timers only staffed tech org vs contracting /outsourcing model. This is being done at the cost of current employees, running systems stability and more importantly lives of many more contractors ( 7k plus) who have been let go overnight.
The customers will ultimately be at the wrong end of this transformation . wont be surprised if it all leads to mass exodus of the existing employess and current leadership team.
I don't think its 40%, but rather close to 70%. Still they are not telling if work will start from 19th March or not.
Lots of people are lay off but management is not telling . Around 40% are layed off. Mostly consultants.
In my experience, while working for Walgreens, it feels like you could be fired at a moment's notice. Much of the leadership could use a crash course in professionalism. Motivation though threats seems to be the order of the day.
I was told yesterday that they will not renew my contract. It was a tough pillow to swallow. They also told me that it was just a 30 day hiatus. But turns out that was not true. How this was handled extremely unprofessional and savage in my opinion. They can care less about you as a person
Anyone have any updates on the status? Lots of bad press for other issues, saw the stock price drop again. The lack of communication from higher ups is concerning and my teams are starting to get combative.
This is not a surprise. Immediately laying off some or all of the contractors is an easy way to reduce overhead expenses to boost the value of the business to the shareholders. When was quarterly earning announced?
Every contractor in the product org was let go 2/1/23. Wondering if the moratorium is ending or if the FTE’s are next…
Yes, same here. Was told to stop working immediately, but hang on to the laptop, till we ask you to return it, later. Was also told not to wait around, and to look for another assignment immediately. Though this is expected in the consulting world, only Walgreens has had the insensitivity to let go of independent contractors so abruptly and wreak havoc in our lives!
This is what they said. But then I got the news that they are laying 30% of the contractors and I was told to find a new job on Friday.
Did anyone else get the news that they are being let go ? I am a contractor by the way.
