I hate that the news of layoffs dropped and we haven't heard anything else since. At least we haven't heard anything that would give us more insight into what's about to happen. All I'm hearing is a whole bunch of rumors and exaggerations that are not helping anybody. The lack of official info is causing unnecessary stress.

would be far better to make some volume voluntary -- weed out those who want to leave or are ready to retire. Then deal with what is left.
