But why are many here so convinced that there will be no layoffs here any time soon?

You outsource to india to make the books balance in a way that gives you a bonus, it will take years to see the repurcussions and by that time you will be long gone on your defined benefit pension. Everyone knows the quality suffers, building up technical debts like this for decades are why revenues are so flat.
Brew was not a failed project. BrewMP was. Classic Brew indeed was huge success and helped 3rd party app developers earn billions. Ckasdic Brew helped Q to sell chipsets as OEM needed OS to bring up the HW. We can't deny Brew was foundation of today's chipset business. When BrewMP was being developed to compete Android, it was too late and Android was the first choice to adopt. Rest is the history.
Indians in qcom were amazing in 1990s. They are responsible for building qcom with innovations and patents. Now it seems like qcom is hiring low talents.
It shouldn't matter to a bonafide engineer. Take your severance and skills somewhere else and make more money for a company that has better leadership.
Qualcomm for the most part is people who worked on failed projects (Brew, Mediaflow, Omnitracks) who think they are smart but aren't.
And then eventually, American companies will start bringing many of those jobs back from India because they will realize the work done in India is largely garbage (work in Chinese offices is overall high quality). I never let any of my projects use outsourced Indian labour or H1Bs from India as I typically have to have the work redone by someone else. It truly astounds me how bad the work is on average from India.
Americans been replaced by H1B's now H1B's being replaced to outsourced labor in India and China. Oh the irony
I wouldn’t your harsh criticism to H1B. The tech industry views all Qualcomm employees as worthless and lazy!
QC could easily fire every H1B holder and see no discernible impact on development / progress. In my experience, their impact is minimal at best, other than making the VP look like they have a large team... even if that team consists of unimaginative, unproductive, unskilled "workers".
Layoff lists have already been made. Qualcomm will announce layoffs to the Street during earnings, so to boost the stock.
Bc there are so many H1Bs that will be impacted … and they would rather stay in denial than to see the truth! It’s easier to lie to yourself than accept the truth… but Qualcomm is ready to spin the wheel again and bring in cheaper labor
I was just told to stop all spending with vendors and slash temp positions. I'm in accounting and required to notify all vendors. anyone similar.?
