Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Has anyone at Edward Jones taken on a second job just to make ends meet?

After eight years with the company, consistently good performance reviews, and earning my Series 7, I never expected to be living paycheck to paycheck. But with the pay scale failing to keep up with the rising cost of living, I have reached the point where I am putting my electric bill on a credit card.

I am seriously considering taking on a second job, and I am wondering how many other employees are already doing the same. What kind of side work have you found that fits around your Edward Jones schedule? Has management raised any concerns about outside employment?

It is frustrating to have the licenses, experience, and positive reviews, yet still struggle to cover basic household expenses. At what point does the company acknowledge that the current pay structure is not sustainable?

@kg You know, Ive heard other people mention similar tactics. Ex. Just find out who the specific hiring manager is and go directly to them vs sending the resume into the black hole of online applications.

@jf do like they used to teach the FA's- go knock on a door and introduce yourself to them. it's not easy, but it works.

@j2 Any advice on the best way to get your resume through the firewall of AI bots so an actual human sees it?

The grass is greener elsewhere! The job market is a journey but I also received a 30% increase after leaving. Hope all who are stuck there find something more fulfilling with better pay!

I left Edward Jones and got a 30% pay raise. EJ pays less than market rate for their roles. EJ used to be able to get people to stay making less because it was a pretty good place to work. Now it’s a sh---y place to work and they’re still paying less than market rate. Leave if you can.

RTO has basically been a paycut for me. All BS talking points they spew make me sick. It's nothing more than another tool in the box sh/t all over us and make us quit. Applying to jobs has been a massive pain the @$$ and time investment, but it is the only thing that keeps my sanity. Sitting in a cube with ear buds on while the GPs walk around like hall monitors counting heads. We are moving backwards in time with how we do the work, and forward right off the AI cliff. We are drinking the AI kool aid hook line and sinker right now and I can't wait to see this sunk cost blow up in our faces.

@db You are required to disclose all outside employment in JAC. This is to ensure no conflicts of interests. You can receive discipline, including termination for not disclosing ‘outside activities.’ However, many people work second jobs with no issues.

@db if you don't disclose it, it can cost you dearly...

I ended up taking a second job at a gas station that’s between the office and my apartment. I leave the office, change clothes in the gas station bathroom, and start my shift. I usually work until 12, sometimes 1, then get up the next morning and do it all over again. I haven’t told management because it’s embarrassing.

Sorry to hear this. Just remember to disclose if you pick up a side job. I imagine weekend work in a non-related field would potentially be ok.

I spent half of the 9 years I was at Jones at or under the minimum for the paygrade, never got anywhere close to midpoint. I had 3 bumps to minimum, and my annual was in October/November. Even with nothing but "exceeds expectations". Sure doesn't feel like a "merit increase" when it's less than the new minimum every year. Yes, I went up paygrades several times, I was told this was "the consequence of being promoted too fast". New leaders and teams I'd always be promised they'd get me up to "where you should be" fast and it never happened. Never got an LP offer either.

Don't work here expecting to be compensated appropriately. I put up with it under the promise that I was valued, valuable, and that it will all pay off. Then they ISP'd me. Only reason I come to this site is because I worry about the people who are still there. I feel betrayed, Jones was all too willing to throw me out at one of the worst times they could. The job market is horrendous and I can only get interviews for entry level positions despite senior experience. It could happen to anyone next and there's nothing you can do about it but get a foot out the door early.

You’re going to have to try harder than this to escape the wage cage.

Edward Jones wins the long game by not increasing your salary as fast as inflation. They know this. Unless you are moving up grade levels, you will fall further and further behind. Look weekly, apply frequently, and if it doesn’t happen here, start looking outside EJ.
