NetApp advised U.S. employees in May that we could elect a separate 401(k) deferral percentage for our ICP bonus. I was excited about the new option and updated my elections in Fidelity as soon as it became available. However, I also changed my regular 401(k) contribution election to 1% as a precaution. I'm not always a trusting person. In the past, I’ve always lowered my election to 1% before the ICP payout so I could maximize the bonus amount received.
Surprise, surprise — my ICP bonus had 1% deducted instead of the 0% election I had specifically selected for the ICP payout. I opened an HR ticket and was told that I must have made a mistake in my Fidelity account, even though I provided screenshots and had verified the election multiple times before the bonus was paid. Clearly, Fidelity recognized the separate 1% election change, so the system was capturing at least part of the update correctly.
I can’t overstate how frustrating this was for me. It felt like yet another situation where employees were let down by the process. I’m definitely not “thriving” over here.
