Wow none of you have ever been through a downsizing or rightsizing. This is textbook. Your direct manager always has absolute zero involved in the decision making about reducing headcount. They too busy managing up to survive and lucky they not culled as well too. Sounds like some real big self important egos are crashing to earth for what the real value is a cog in a machine. When that cog gets too expensive it gets eliminated for something cheaper. If you are not in the C club always have and always will be expendable now you have open eyes

Agreed - my manager didn't even know until after the fact and the only communication from my SVP was a cr---y email.
