We need to face facts. The age of job security is long gone. Layoffs are now happening daily and weekly, not just once or twice a year. We might be talking about small cuts here and there, but nobody is safe from them. Sadly, the only job security you can have these days is to make sure you are easily employable. That's it.

This is an effect of increased competition, caused by globalization, accelerated by the pandemic.
Every CEO who resisted telecommuting has spent the past several years Zooming. They know now that remote work is practical.
And any job that can be done remotely can be out-sourced.
There are associated costs, particularly communication overhead, but those are more than offset by lower salaries. Salaries in different countries will eventually level out, but that process will take decades.
A few strategic products, such as semiconductors, will move back in-country. But any work that can be out-sourced, will be.
As the OP says: keep your skills sharp!
The janitor job does not exist within Intel, it is through a different company. Incorrect statement.
I'm the janitor, my job is secure at Intel regardless of layoffs.
