Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

If you're good at what you do, you're safe

I doubt Amazon will rush to get rid of its best employees. Let's face it, this place has a lot of fat, especially among middle management. Plenty of people can be cut there without any consequences. Now, if you are one of the people who contributes very little to the bottom line, I'd be very worried.

If you're good at what you do, but you do it in an underperforming division, you're likely not safe.

USA/CALIFORNIA (Tech Ops / Tech Acct Mgrs)
I think it's not fair for those of us who are sincere and truthful...vs those who are using friends, relatives, family
(and/or attempt to offer "gifts"/meals, etc. to those above them) to keep their job.

Some are even hidding their official/legal name in an attempt for both Husband and Wife to keep their jobs.

Be fair! Don't hide your friends, relatives, and/or your FULL LEGAL name just to keep your job! If you are good and needed, Amazon will keep you!

Doesn't Amazon know everyone's Legal/Official name already?
I was under the impression that ALL employees need to present themselves everywhere inside and outside the company with their FULL LEGAL name.
Yes- FULL legal name...even if you have 3-4-5 or even more names, some of which you acquired through marriage...

Shouldn't every employee openly declare if they have close relatives, family members, etc...inside the company
so everyone knows they are family, husband and wife, or life partners working for the same company (yes, sometimes, different departments, different branches, different cities...)
especially when one family member works less and less (but charges full-time...or more?!)..to keep up with the work of the other one, who cannot do much...hmmmm

Yes, there is lots of opportunity now outside, despite all the tech layoffs. You'll get a good role if you are good...

Your employment is based on how friendly you are with the management. Amazon already has a machine that makes money. There's no need to hire and keep the most competent workers.

In most cases having employees who are unproductive is a failure of leadership, not of the employees.

Set clear, consistent goals and give the people executing on them support.

That's not what goes on at Amazon

^ The fact that you're on this site is proof that you contribute very little to the bottom line, so you might want to be slightly worried

Good already left, fat is what is left mostly at the supportive staff. Dev teams are very strong but a lot of them overstayed and in no way raise the bar and some suffer from lack of results of products rather than their abilities to execute the product they were asked to work on.

Merit system/bar got lost, a lot switched roles completely but retained levels. I can personally assure you they have l6,l7’s with 2-3 years of role related experience and total professional experience of 5-6 years. Such departments over leaned on new hires that they managed to attract with high pay and “FAANG” reputation. So yeah a lot of fat trimming, time to call all L6+ to list their exact and traceable contributions in last 6 months. Would you believe me that they had 200k individuals that did not know how to use Microsoft office products but simply grew in levels by tenure in non relevant and measurable roles.
