Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

So can I retire if laid off?

I was told by someone that I could have the option to retire if I am over 50, if I am laid off. Where in the packet is that offer? Does it vary from state to state?

My severance package did not mention the option to retire. Someone mentioned to me that people over 55 would get the option to retire vs being laid off.

If you are over age 55 and have more than 10 years of Schwab tenure, your unvested RSUs will vest upon termination (whether resignation/retirement or layoff), as long as it wasn't termination for cause.

There isn't any difference between "retiring" and "resigning" from a legal perspective.

I think what your asking is for people to agree that not finding a new job is ok.... If you have the retirement savings...

Hey if you have the money retire and find hobbies but age has no impact on offered packages.

There is no special Schwab offer for someone laid off and choosing to retire. The someone was likely misquoting the "rule of 55", which allows 401k withdrawals before 59 1/2. There are other tax and insurance options to help fund an earlier-than-expected retirement.

You can retire at any time. Just requires assets and or passive income.
